REFLECTIONS OF IDEOLOGICAL CURRENTS IN THE OTTOMAN PERIOD: A BRIEF EVALUATION FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF TURKISH-ISLAMIC SYNTHESIS

Summary/Abstract: This article deals with the relationship of ideological currents during the Ottoman Empire with the Turkish-Islamic synthesis. The Ottoman Empire was under the influence of different ideological currents at various periods. These movements have left significant impacts on state policy, social structure, cultural understanding and religious practices. In the article, first of all, the main ideological movements that were influential in the Ottoman period are defined and how these movements were reflected in the Ottoman society is briefly explained. Then, what the Turkish-Islamic synthesis is and its relationship with the ideological movements in the Ottoman period were examined. In this context, what kind of place the Turkish-Islamic synthesis gained in Ottoman society and how this synthesis affected the Ottoman political thought, social structure and cultural life are examined. Finally, in this study, the role of Turkish-Islamic synthesis in the ideological diversity in the Ottoman Empire was evaluated. This evaluation will provide a framework for understanding the relationship between ideological movements in the Ottoman period and the Turkish-Islamic synthesis.
