CHERNOBYL DISASTER AND IMPACT ON A GLOBAL SCALE

Summary/Abstract: The biggest nuclear disaster that happened in the world is the Chernobyl disaster. In the history of mankind, this accident is the most significant nuclear accident, whose consequences are large-scale. Not knowing the characteristics of the plant and the technological process and a large number of human errors can be presented as the key reason for the tragedy. The released radioactivity that led to the wide spread of radioactive substances manifested itself through external irradiation in the air and soil and internal irradiation resulting from the consumption of contaminated food and water. The dose that residents from this territory and beyond received depends on the place where they lived in the power plant vicinity, as well as the evacuated time. This accident is characterized as the highest level of nuclear events.
