Summary/Abstract: Count Marcellinus, a Catholic Christian statesman from Illyricum was the cancellarius of Emperor Iustinian (527–565 AD) and one of the most important historians of the early VIth century. As a court official, he wrote a Latin chronicle (Chronicon), which is the continuation of Hieronymus’ (St. Jerome’s) historical opus and covers the period from 379 to 534 AD. Additionally, Marcellinus’ summary was later extended until 548 AD by an unknown author. The work is also an important, unavoidable source of the history of the Late Antique steppe tribes. In my paper, I translate and comment the passages of Count Marcellinus in connection with the Alans, Huns, Bulgars and Sabirs.
