Summary/Abstract: During the period from 1920, when The Opera in the National Theatre in Belgrade was officialy founded, to 1944, only three operas of Richard Wagner were performed: The Flying Dutchman (1920), Lohengrin (1926) and Tannhauser (1934). All the three premieres of these operas remained on the repertoire of the National Theatre for a short period of time. The paper deals with reason why so few of Wagner's operas were premiered at the Belgrade National Theatre in the period of 24 years; why Wagner's works survived for a short time on the stage of the National Theatre in Belgrade and why Wagner's great creative opus was reduced to only these three of his operas.
