Summary/Abstract: Publications on the cultural history of veganism, insightful and inclusive as they are, givethe impression that it has been experienced andnarrated by adults only and that children havehad no part in it. The article challenges thisassumption by postulating to include children’saccounts in the cultural history of meatless diets.Given the importance of first-person narrativesfor analyzing the processes of identity formation, the author proposes to delineate and undergoa detailed reading of the repository of veganautobiographies and introduce children’s voicesinto it. Undertaking a study of the historicaldimension of children’s first-person narratives, the author looks at the 19th-century vegetarianperiodicals for children and brings to light theirvoices and experiences.
