Summary/Abstract: We scrutinise the concepts of “applied foreign languages” and “discipline”, showing that interdisciplinarity is intrinsic to all fields, applied languages do not as a rule lead to academic careers for students enrolled in France, the criteria for appurtenance to “disciplines” are culturally specific, trilinguals face stigmatisation, and governance in Applied Languages is too often “heterocephalous”, managed by decisions-makers alien to the field. We conclude on ten theses for an LEA spring for a post-disciplinary approach to Applied Languages.
