Summary/Abstract: In this study I present an unpublished 930-page musical manuscript, unknown to the musical world until now, a manuscript that probably contains the entire musical work signed by the archimandrite of the Diocese of Argeș, Ghelasie Basarabeanu (†1855), a renowned protopsaltes teacher from the first half of the 19th century. The current material is adapted from the subchapter „Unpublished Manuscripts from the Library of the Archdiocese of Argeșului”, which is part of my PhD thesis entitled: Romanian Musical Culture of Byzantine Tradition in the Area of Argeș, Pitești and Câmpulung-Muscel in the 19th and 20th Centuries, defended in 2013 at the National University of Music in Bucharest, under the supervision of Arch. Prof. Univ. Dr. Sebastian Barbu-Bucur. A unique aspect of the musical manuscript is that it is calligraphed by a single copyist in the person of Marin Dimitrescu from the village of Valea Merilor, a calligrapher name unknown up to now among the copyists of Ghelasie Basarabeanu’s opera. Following the presentation of some brief bibliographical data of the archimandrite protopsaltes and the names of those who have been involved in the research and analysis of his musical work, I am presenting the codicological data of the manuscript together with the incipits of the unpublished chants in double musical notation (psaltical and guidonic), ending with a synoptic table in which the published and unpublished chants of this musical manuscript can be observed. The study concludes with the presentation of some facsimiles in order to fully appreciate the melody of the chants as well as the skill and precision acribia of the copyist.
