Summary/Abstract: This article discusses the history, forms and meaning of postmodernism, which as a term was used since the 19th century, but as a poetics it appeared after the ‘50s of the 20th century. In addition to the chronological reading of the term, the different attitudes of theorists are also commented here for this poetics, which is known as a synthesis of previous poetics and which has the irony as a representative figure, which distances postmodern authors from metanarratives and from the past, which is seen by them not nostalgically, but critically.
