Summary/Abstract: This is an interpretation of Ismail Kadare’s Chronicle in Stone, which is seen as a literary phenomenon in Albanian culture. Through the method of variantistics and psychoanalysis, it explores the hidden meanings of the novel, which seems to contain a subversion towards the regime, parodying the communist ideology and the dictator himself. Analyzing and interpreting the novel’s variants and political and sexual references, this article sees Kadare’s novel as the pinnacle of subversion and the perfection of fiction.
