Summary/Abstract: Emerson, the American essayist and poet, was an admirer of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, the German writer, poet, and philosopher. In his essay titled “Goethe; or, the Writer,” Emerson wrote about Goethe’s literary works and his influence on the world of literature. He heralded Goethe’s Faust as “the work of one who found himself the master of histories, mythologies, philosophies, sciences and national literatures.”
