Although the term military confrontation has been attached different definitions and meanings, it is certainly the most violent of all types of confrontation. Secondly, the causes of military confrontations are analysed. Among them, fear, honour, interests and the desire for power are mentioned. Thirdly, different types of operations such as expeditionary, integrated, effects-based ones, as well as network-centric warfare, asymmetrical warfare and unconventional military operations are discussed. Last but not least, the causes of victory and defeat in military confrontations are examined.
