Summary/Abstract: This study presents the perspective of university students studying in Hungarian lan¬guage in the Carpathian Basin on the ideal teacher and teacher authority. The theoret¬ical part deals with the ideal teacher, teacher authority, and the "Big Five” personality typology. The main aim of the research is to assess the opinion of Hungarian-speaking university students in the Carpathian Basin on ideal teachers and teacher authority, and then to compare whether there are differences in terms of various background variables. The research questions were formulated to meet these objectives. The research was conducted using a questionnaire survey, with a total of 1037 students participating. The questionnaire responses were processed using the SPSS statistical program. According to the opinion of university students in the Carpathian Basin, the ideal teacher was most characterized by being patient, helpful, kind, understanding, prepared, and empathetic, while the authoritative teacher was most characterized by being strict, respectful, decisive, helpful, knowledgeable, and professional.
