Summary/Abstract: The paper is dedicated to the presentation of the life and work of Sava Mrkalj (1788. — 1833.), a Serbian philologist, philosopher, and writer who left an indelible mark on Serbian culture through his alphabetic reform and his significant, albeit small-scale, poetic work. He was a gifted and educated intellectual, a polyglot and an individual whose life path was marked by conflicts, personal turmoil, poverty, and illness. The introductory section of the paper provides his concise biography, followed by a comprehensive portrayal of his philological contributions and literary endeavours.
