Summary/Abstract: In 1986, Spain joined the European Communities, and seven years later the European Union was established. The paper examines the issue of Catalonia’s activity in the EC/EU between 1986 and 2021. The paper aims to present the evolution of the policy of Catalonia in the EC/EU in the context of building its political position. In order to carry out the research on Catalonia’s participation in the EC/EU as an element of developing its autonomist policy, the author will use specific research questions. The research problem includes Catalonia’s relations with the central authorities of the Spanish state, Catalonia’s participation in the shaping of Spain’s relations with the EC/EU, and the direct and indirect participation of the Catalan administration in the EC/EU. For an in-depth analysis, the author refers to quantitative and qualitative data and literature on the subject.
