Summary/Abstract: Mediation, as one of the skills that should be developed during foreign language teaching and learning, has been present in European documents for more than 20 years. However, it was only in the early 2020s, with the publication of the Companion Volume to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, that it was sufficiently described to allow teachers to introduce mediation tasks in the classroom. Mediation skills are also related to other modern didactic approaches, such as the plurilingualism and pluriculturalism, pluralistic approaches, the action-oriented approach, as well as collaborative, meaningful and non-linguistic content-based learning. The article will briefly comment on the relationship between these approaches and mediation, but its main objective will be to show that it is possible to use the Catalan language to develop mediation skills in Spanish as a foreign language course. For this purpose, eight didactic proposals will be presented: six on the mediation of texts, one – on the mediation of concepts and one – on the mediation of communication. The activities will use a variety of authentic teaching materials in Catalan (paper and video guides, scientific article, back cover of a novel, graphic data, Instagram posts, TV show) to which learners have access thanks to one of the pluralistic approaches, namely, the intercomprehension between the languages of the same family. The tasks are intended for high school or university students, as well as adults, who have a level of Spanish B1 or higher (knowledge of Catalan is not necessary, but previous didactic work related to intercomprehension is recommended).
