Summary/Abstract: This text examines stereotypes as universal generalizations about the members of social groups, created in the process of communication and having a simplifying effect. They are often associated with negative beliefs and can lead to prejudice and discrimination. Prejudices are unjustified negative attitudes towards groups, formed on the basis of emotional, cognitive, and behavioral aspects. Examining social attitudes is important for dealing with discrimination, as they can be formed and changed over time. Gender role stereotypes are shaped by cultural and social factors, which create certain expectations for the behavior of men and women. These stereotypes lead to the establishment of norms that can limit personal development and social opportunities. There are two main viewpoints on the origin of gender roles: one emphasizes socio-cultural aspects, and the other biological differences. Stereotypes can have a significant impact on family life and on the upbringing of children, both positively and negatively. Discrimination based on gender is a social problem, stemming from deeply rooted stereotypes and historically established gender roles. Women face numerous restrictions, including in countries with strong religious influence. Labor discrimination affects women’s incomes and pensions and men’s opportunities to participate in parenting. To overcome these challenges, models for social change and strategies to combat prejudice are applied. Despite progress, the “feminization of poverty” is a fact, and the “glass ceiling” continues to limit women’s professional development, which maintains social and economic inequality between the sexes.
