Summary/Abstract: The present paper explores the significance of marine elements in the context of Ireland’s colonial history, focusing on the island, the coastline, and the Irish Sea as depicted in Charles R. Maturin’s novel, 𝑀𝑒𝑙𝑚𝑜𝑡ℎ 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑊𝑎𝑛𝑑𝑒𝑟𝑒𝑟. Employing postcolonial, ecocritical, and ecofeminist theories, the analysis aims to elucidate the connection between marine elements and the Irish national identity, and to highlight the novel’s contribution to the tradition of sea literature and Watery Romanticism.
