A BUILDING INSCRIPTION FROM 1773 IN THE ZOGRAF MONASTERY

Summary/Abstract: The proposed message examines the linguistic features of a building inscription from 1773, preserved in the Zograf Monastery "St. George" on Mount Athos. The inscription is dedicated to the construction of a fountain in the monastery, which was paid for by Hadji Teodor from the city of Ruse and his wife. The inscription considered here, although relatively short, provides some information about literary language practice in our country in the third quarter of the 19th century. Its language can be characterized as a Bulgarian variety of the Church Slavonic language. The inscription contains 44 words, which include 263 characters. The author wanted to create an inscription in the Church Slavonic language, but the norms of the Church Slavonic language are not consistently observed in the text. This article examines the inscription's graphic, spelling, and grammatical features.
