Summary/Abstract: The City Library “Ivan Goran Kovačić” in Karlovac is the central library of the Karlovac County. It was built in 1976 as the first purpose-built library building in Croatia and the region. With its six departments, seven services (including two bookmobiles) and two dislocated libraries, the library manages to meet the needs of numerous members and over 150,000 visitors a year at more than 800 events. The energy-efficient library building, green oases in the library area, high-quality green literature, and numerous eco-events contributed to the improvement of the local community. It especially improved the quality of the stay in the Library for both visitors and employees. The green story was rounded off and brought closer to the wider professional public with the Green Festival – Karlovac Green Story. The festival was realized by strengthening the existing cooperation between the library and associations and institutions at the national and international levels. Great interest and enthusiasm are an additional motive for the Green Festival to enter the map of national events and become a traditional gathering of librarians and all other experts who deal with green topics.
