Summary/Abstract: The political position of the President of the Republic of Poland is shaped in a waythat is particularly inappropriate in the context of the short experience of the democra-tic system shaped by the current Constitution and the parliamentary-cabinet system.Further considerations lead to the conclusion that, based on the current politicalsystem and the deep polarization of society that may lead to state paralysis, the con-solidation of democracy in Poland will progress slowly at best, and may not occur atworst. Outlining the demands for necessary changes, the author indicates that, in hisopinion, in countries burdened with the burden of a difficult, authoritarian history, the mechanisms of checks and balances must be balanced much more carefully thanthe current Constitution. Systematic provision of a wider range of competences toa smaller number of state bodies, while using a precise system of mutual cooperativerelationships, may ultimately lead to the development of compromise attitudes amongthe political class and greater responsibility among voters.
