Summary/Abstract: The first session of the Sejm is a significant political and constitutional event.Its special character is manifested in many fields. The aim of the article is to presentto readers two basic issues related to the inaugural meeting of the lower house ofthe Polish Parliament. The first one concerns the sources of law on which the firstsession of the Sejm is based. In this respect, the role of custom and parliamentarypractice will also be discussed. The second issue is related to the actions that mustbe taken by the Sejm during its first session. The analysis carried out leads to thefollowing conclusions: the catalog of sources of law on which the first session of theSejm is based is complex and includes the Constitution of the Republic of Poland, acts and the rules of procedure of the Sejm. In the context of the second issue, it shouldbe noted that the lower house is obliged by law to ensure that, during the first sitting,the deputies’ oath is taken, the authorities of the Sejm are elected, the resignation ofthe Council of Ministers is submitted by the Prime Minister, and two deputy chairmenand members of State Tribunal are elected.
