Summary/Abstract: The psychological and behavioural sciences of psychology and psychiatry make it possible to consider a person's psychological problems not only from a therapeutic point of view, but also from a values-based leadership perspective. Historically, there has been a link between psychological problems and effective leadership in dealing with national and global crises. Depression, hyperthymia and other psychological problems have an unusually positive effect on leadership, helping to assess the situation more realistically and to act creatively and persistently. The article considers the place of psychopathology in leadership, positioning it as a value proposition and opportunity for the expression of maritime leadership. The discussion is epistemologically grounded in the principles of theistic humanism and neo-Thomistic personalism. The anthropological focus is on the value-based personality of a maritime professional. Working at sea, in extreme conditions, may paradoxically reveal the link between psychological problems and leadership through the deep spiritual layers of human nature.
