Summary/Abstract: Considering Romania’s new status, that of an EU and NATO member state, the professional training and development in support of economic growth and knowledge-based society development are the main factors that contribute to the country’s competitiveness and prosperity. The article presents the challenges posed to the world and European education systems at the beginning of the 21st century, the timeliness and importance of professional education and training in the Romanian education, as well as the major objectives of the military education institutions in this context. Within the Romanian Armed Forces transformation and modernisation process, education and training are essential elements. Through a pragmatic and advanced education system, vector of the transformation process, the achievement of an educated and trained fighter is sought, one who has a superior managerial culture and is able to operate in a joint multinational environment.
