Summary/Abstract: Although they operate in different socio-economic environments, both European and American think tanks remain responsive to political and societal trends and important civil society actors. Moreover, they show a surprising amount of heterogeneity and reflect the outstanding diversity within their own areas. European and American think tanks still face the challenge of maintaining independence and relevancy in a constantly evolving and increasingly competitive policy environment.
