“Appellatio omnis a sententia iudicis fieri debet. On the five hundredth anniversary of the establishment of appeals in Poland (1523-2023)” (Krakow, June 6-7, 2023)

Summary/Abstract: December 17, 2023 marked the five-hundredth anniversary of the end of the Piotrków Sejm, during which the Formulam processus was passed - a law designed to simplify, zu- nify and codify judicial proceedings before the courts of land law. Although this act, consisting of one hundred and eleven provisions, did not achieve all the goals set before it, it undoubtedly became the normative foundation of the land trial and, due to unsuccessful efforts to codify Polish law, remained so until the end of the Republic. One of the most important provisions of the “Trial Formula” was the introduction of the institution of appeal into the judicial procedure, which was intended by its creators to replace the previous mootness, i.e. the move (reprimand) of the judge.
