The Methodology of Political Research: A Polemic with Karel B. Müller

Summary/Abstract: The article takes issue with a book review by Karel B. Müller. It argues that the disciplines of political science and international relations share their methodologies and methods, and that each discipline uses both nomothetic and idiographic approaches. Also, it addresses the roles of positivism and of hermeneutics in political research. Finally, the article makes a clear distinction between the philosophy of science and its methodology emphasizing the theoretical and practical significance of the methodological research.
