Images of Depressive Hedonia. Kaczanowski, masłowska and Podgórni

Summary/Abstract: This article discusses books by three contemporary writers: Utrata [The Loss] by Adam Kaczanowski (2021), Inni ludzie [Other People] by Dorota Masłowska (2018) and Pamiętne statusy [Memorable Statuses] by Łukasz Podgórni (2016). The author examines these works from the angle of the tropes of depressive hedonia present in them. This term – drawn from Mark Fisher – describes the state of non-gratifying, immediate pleasure characteristic of the subjective condition generated by late capitalism. This category is used in the article to describe negative (or critical) politics of pleasure in Polish literature of recent years.
