Summary/Abstract: The following discussion focuses on the war damages in the Goriška Region after World War I and on the country’s post-war reconstruction. Already during the war, after the Soča/ Isonzo Front had moved towards the river Piave, various committees started focusing on reconstruction. The processes of restoration and refugee repatriation took place simultaneously, and the role of the local artisans in the renovation was particularly significant. The renowned architect Maks Fabiani became actively involved in the recovery of the Goriška Region, initially still in the service of the Austrians. However, after the Italian occupation (and later annexation) of this area, he also oversaw the restoration works in the Italian office. To this end, he drew up regulation plans for many towns, individual public buildings, and squares in the Slovenian Littoral and introduced a new urban image to the destroyed villages along the river Soča.
