Summary/Abstract: The nutrition of soldiers on the battlefield has always represented a great challenge for the supply and support branch of the military. Inadequate food left soldiers physically weak but also dispirited. The food supply for the Austro-Hungarian soldiers on the Austro-Italian front mostly failed to keep up with the demand, so they were often hungry, especially after 1916. An analysis of the soldiers’ diaries, memoirs, and letters provides an insight into their experiences and identifies the various factors that affected them.
