Summary/Abstract: The article aims to discuss how the mutual impact of anti -tourism movements and politics influ-ences the picture of overtourism disseminated by the media. The examples of Barcelona and Amsterdam presented show how anti -tourism movements, and their postulates, merge with political programs and become a part of local or even domestic political debate. Politicians and supporting media have become interested in over -heating emotions for political reasons. As a result, the picture presented in the media might not mirror precisely the complex phenomenon of overtourism being experienced differently in different places in the same city, at different moments, and by different residents.
