Economy as a Hostage of Politics: Analysis of the Actions of the Security Service towards Economic Agents Using Computer-Aided Methods

Summary/Abstract: The article concerns the issue of actions undertaken by the Security Service [Polish abbreviation: SB] of the People’s Republic of Poland (based on the example of the Szczecin branch) to protect the state’s economy. The research problem is whether the image of SB activities preserved in the analyzed archival sources shows some kind of a well-thought-out economic strategy, or whether these activities, even in the sphere of declarations, were ill-con-sidered and doomed to failure attempts to adjust political ideology to economic reality. In order to verify the hypotheses put forward in the article and to analyze the information contained in the archival sources, a computer-aided research method was used: a classification and regression tree (CART).
