Summary/Abstract: A travelogue is one of the most popular literary genres in the Third Reich. It can display escapist tendencies as well as be used for ideological propaganda. This is the case in Gertrud Fussenegger‘s travelogue Böhmische Verzauberungen [Bohemian Enchantments, 1944], which legitimises the ‘Germanisation’ of Prague with reference to the ‘Reich’ idea and at the same time, based on a description of the Jewish cemetery in Prague - develops an anti-Semitic phantasmagoria. The article analyses how Fussenegger’s text uses cultural-historical descriptions of central places of memory to substantiate German hegemony.
