Summary/Abstract: In this paper - on the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of the foundation of the Comparative Literature Department at Zagreb University - two letters from the family archives of the late professor Ivo Hergešić are published. The first one is by the »Croat Nightingale «, Milka Katarina Tmina, the Bavarian Royal Chamber Singer, and the other is by »Lisinski's lifelong fiancee«, Heda Bann Stergar. For those that are familiar with the Croatian musical history in the Illyric period, and with its matrix in Vatroslav Lisinski's opera Porin, both letters have a documentary value: musical and theatrical (as in Croatian musical history the opera Porin is the antonomasia for the theatre). What connects the two letters without the addressee is (i) Porin as the only link; (ii) the search, transmission of infonnation »from letter to letter« which has led to (iii) the real revelation, semel pro semper: all of his musicallegacy Lisinski (1819-1854) bequeathed hedviga Heda Bann, which she admitted in her letter of 1897, again »without addressee«, and found in Hergcšić's family archives in 1993.
