Summary/Abstract: Based on Russian documentary and historiographic sources, the article deals with the policy of the Communist (Bolshevik) Party of the Soviet Union towards the Russian Orthodox Church, in the period between 1943 and 1964. It highlights the ideological foundations of the Bolshevik policy and also the way the party, in its political moves, paid attention to the historical context and, as a result of some strategic reasons, halted its systematic persecutions against the church.
