Summary/Abstract: The article aims to assess the value of Karol Perthées’ Geographical and Statistical Description of the Parishes of the Kingdom of Poland from the end of the 18th century, in comparison with visitations of the Catholic Church from the same period, for reconstructing the settlement network and parish boundaries. At the outset, the characteristics of the two sources are presented, i.e., their similarities and differences. The actual analysis was based on a comparison of information from five selected deaneries from different dioceses in the Western Crown. Using a quantitative method, the difference in the representation of the settlement network in the sources studied was characterized, and a qualitative method (case study analysis) was used to discuss the problems of determining parish affiliation. The obtained conclusions indicate that compared to the visitations, Geographical and Statistical Description of the Parishes of the Kingdom of Poland is a source richer in information about the settlement network, and at the same time a reliable basis for the reconstruction of parish boundaries.
