Summary/Abstract: Some people build their outlook on the future with confidence, expecting things to happen in life in a desirable way. This outlook indicates optimism and defines the beliefs that characterize optimists. The beliefs of pessimists contain expectations full of negativity. According to the studies in the literature, optimism can be useful in terms of various issues that can be taken into consideration in the context of social relations. However, it is seen that optimism studies conducted in Turkey in the context of social relationships are quite insufficient. The aim of this article is to review optimism research in social relations. In the literature, optimism has been investigated in various contexts such as romantic relationships, parenting and family. The results indicate that the concept of optimism is important in many aspects such as social support, loneliness, being desirable, attractive or socially accepted by other people, relationship quality or satisfaction with the relationship, establishment of close relationships, relationship continuity in terms of time, approach to solving problems in the relationship and perceptions of success in solving problems.
