Summary/Abstract: Anna Akhmatova wrote works of various themes. She was the author of numerous poems and translationsthat were translated into many languages, including Polish. The poet’s work includes bothreflective, subtle lyrics, as well as poems, historical works and memories, e.g., about Russian literaryfigures. For many years, her works were not published because she lived in times of harsh politicalrepression and severe censorship. The aim of this paper is to present the life and work of the Russianpoet and translator, a leading representative of modernism and Acmeism, with particular emphasison Polish traces in her biography and works. The portraits of Akhmatova emerging from Polishliterary culture and Akhmatova’s different perspectives on issues related to Poland are presented.
