Summary/Abstract: The present paper refers to the development of the SDU manual „Mit Deutsch studieren, arbeiten, leben“, written by authors from several countries and presents it from the perspective of one of the authors. The paper focuses on the importance of writing a curriculum, and fixing the goals, principles and methods before beginning the work on a manual. The term SDU is explained.
