Archive. Methodology, terms and concepts

Summary/Abstract: This text examines the archive in order to rationalize it as a device used in various creative practices, establishing it as an artistic medium. In this regard, the article analyses the factual essence, the system of concepts that describe the archive, and offers an overview of the resources that comprise it, the types of archival collections, as well as its organizational methodology according to which it functions. The archival institution is compared with the close and interrelated library and museums, with the aim of distinguishing their separate functioning. Attention is also drawn to the collection as a specific form to each of these institutions, but also as an autonomous phenomenon determining their thematic focus.
