Summary/Abstract: This article aims to address the complexity of the concept of national identity, its importance from the perspective of its components and characteristics. The first part of the article presents the definition of the concept of national identity as seen by major personalities of Romanian culture, as well as the natural connection created by national identity with the concepts of nation and nationalism. The article further discusses the national symbols that define our nation and the importance of knowing them. The components of national identity are presented in a logical sequence, showing how each intertwines with the others. The article aims to highlight the importance of knowing the elements that define national identity in order to positively influence their shaping from the perspective of developing attachment to the homeland.
