The reception of online discussion comments and its influence on the expression of critical thinking, media literacy, and emotional expressions of child readers

Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on the influence that online discussion comments have on the character of reactions made by pupils in the discussion thereafter. The research tool included an online article with discussion comments in four different versions: A) positive comments supporting the ideas of the text, B) comments questioning the information in the text, C) negative comments evoking fear, D) offensive comments primarily directed at the author of the text. The results show that pupils react differently in the discussion. There actions depend on the nature of the preceding fictional comments. Pupil comments vary in terms of the expressions and degree of media literacy and critical thinking, as well as the manifestations of positive or negative emotions.
