Summary/Abstract: Permanently present in the core background of the great cultures and religions of the world, the vegetable, with a symbolism far from being able to be catalogued, concentrates, within each particular system, multiple availabilities that make it the bearer of meanings that attribute individuality to each culture. In the Romanian cultural space, on the Feast of the Ascension, the vegetal blessed in a moment of great ritual concentration, sacralizes the elements which it comes into contact with, ensures the efficiency of the human activities and places them under the protection of the sacred. As our field research in Oltenia reveals, the ritual practices related to the Paschal temporal join the other customs of the year, dominated by ethnoiatric, purifying and apotropaic values.
