Summary/Abstract: The challenges of new social changes determine the education and upbringing at all social levels. The lifelong education imposes itself in all spheres of human work and activity and it does in the area of education. The changes that are put before teachers are unavoidable and follow the globalization movements. As regards the teaching, one first thinks of the detachment from traditional teaching and learning methods, and the accommodation of teachers to new approaches in teaching and learning. Why and how to realize the changes when one looks at actual circumstances in our schools? This question arises before every teacher personally, depending on the situation and the circumstances a teacher works in. One should, of course, not totally reject the traditional methods and ways of work, but the needs of the market certainly entail the changes in education. My intention in this paper is to try and define the notion of competence, what the key competencies are that every teacher should develop, and find out the ways how to improve and foster the execution of the teaching process, and in the end facilitate the adoption of knowledge for students that they will know hot to apply in everyday situations.
