The Polish frequency dictionary on the centenary of its creator’s birth

Summary/Abstract: The article aims at discussing the reception of Słownik frekwencyjny polszczyzny współczesnej [‘The frequency dictionary of contemporary Polish’] and of the frequency lists published in Słownictwo współczesnego języka polskiego. The article pays particular attention to the current impact of the work, which was originally inspired, among others, by Jerzy Woronczak. The influence of the frequency dictionary is observable in various fields and subdisciplines of linguistics, including glottodidactics, comparative studies, speech therapy, pedagogy, psychology, and cognitive science. Additionally, the article outlines the general methodological assumptions of the corpus of the frequency dictionary, which is presented as an early form of corpus linguistics.
