Summary/Abstract: In the following lines, we aim to analyze from a heraldic point of view the coat of arms and the poem to the coat of arms found in the old romanian book Îndreptarea legii. The armorial insignia and the enblazonment in verses, discussed in the present article, are of great significance for the old Romanian heraldry and culture, as they are among the first heraldic compositions of an ecclesiastical type printed on a Romanian book from the 17th century. The coat of arms and the verses in question are the fruit of the great cultural activity whitch manifested itself in Wallachia in the XVII century, patronized by the prince Matei Basarab, who, out of a desire for cultural progress, surrounded himself with a series of enlightened minds. Udriște Năsturel, Theodor Tișevici, Daniil Andrean the Pannonian or Metropolitan Ștefan of Ungrovlahia are just a few of these enlightened heads who ensured that the prince’s projects would be completed. Polish-Lithuanian influence can be seen in both the design of the coat of arms and the composition of the verses on the coat of arms. The books brought from the Polish-Lithuanian Union, together with the printing press installed in Târgoviște, through the direct involvement of the princely scion and the Metropolitan of Kiev Petru Movilă, played an essential role in the appearance, development and irradiation of the literary genre of coat of blason/”coat of arms verses” in Wallachia, Moldova and Transylvania.
