Summary/Abstract: Currently, a lot of changes are being made in the perception of autism – two perspectives of how it is viewed can be discerned. The first is based on medical discourse, in which the autism spectrum is defined as a holistic developmental dis-order, a disability. The second perspective, based on diagnostic changes, recognizes autism as a different, unique developmental model (which occurs among people of all cultures and nationalities, with every conceivable intellectual level or genotype). By defining the autism spectrum as a spectrum of developmental differences (rather than as a disorder or disease), we can see the enormous diversity and individuality of this group of people (Ławicka, 2019, s. 11-14). However, due to sensory integration disorders, attention difficulties and co-occurring emotional and mental problems, many autistic people experience learning problems, at various educational stages. A person who can reduce the risk of them experiencing setbacks and traumatizing situations is a Student Assistant. An example of the implementation of such a solu-tion at the higher education level is the «Student Assistant with ASD» project.
