Summary/Abstract: The article att empts to demonstrate the process of forming the Armed Forces of the Polish People’s Republic (PRL), with particular emphasis put on certain aspects, primarily the social ones, that could be observed at that time. The aim of the article is also to demonstrate the political and cultural conditions in which cadre and conscript soldiers conducted their military service. At the same time, the article shows numerous irregularities and shortcomings which the military leadership struggled with.
