Summary/Abstract: By crossing Schopenhauer’s theses with Giorgio Colli’s interpretation, this article offers a reflection on the question of the difference between man and animal. Life is the common root, and thus the hierarchy is not qualitative, but rather measured in terms of intensity of life and ability to grasp the substance of life. This metaphysical perspective challenges the notion of reason.
