The Coronation of the Image of Our Lady of Tuchów – a historical outline in the context of the Marian cult

Summary/Abstract: This elaboration presents the history of the papal coronation of the Miraculous Image of Our Lady in Tuchów. It was a result of the work of Polish Redemptorists and an important event for the Polish Church in Galicia, under the Austrian rule. This article was written in preparation for the 120th anniversary of that event. The author presents, based on archival research and existing publications, the zealous work of the Redempto rists in Tuchów; the unique personal relationship of bishop Wałęga (who crowned the Miraculous Image) to this place and its hosts; preparation and course of the coronation ceremonies as well as the consequences and fruits of the coronation for the development of the cult of the Miraculous Image and strengthening of Marian piety among the faithful who have visited Tuchów shrine run by the Redemptorists to this day.
