Summary/Abstract: The current situation, related to the war in Ukraine and Israel, clearly shows how much the category of “helping” poses a challenge to the human being in the individual and social dimension. Helping Jews during the Second World War was certainly such a challenge. The subject of our reflection is the problem of saving Jews from the Holocaust by the Catholic Church. This ambitious and much-needed issue is part of the overall research on the Holocaust, which is still ongoing and sometimes controversial. Research integrity requires that in this case we take into account both historical, legal, cultural and religious conditions as well as existen-tial contexts, including the religious context. It turns out that the truth about saving Jews from the Holocaust during the Second World War (both the one read and the one that has been passed on) does not always lie in the fact, but in the interpretation of the fact. When examining the phenomenon of the involvement of the Catholic Church in Poland in helping Jews, there is not only a statement of facts, but also their interpretation. Cognitive danger can arise both at the level of fact and at the level of interpretation of fact. The article tries to show the facts, present their interpretations and make us aware of where the differences come from.
